About the Event

Mixed Team Relay

Team 1: Josh Lewis, Megan Chapple, Thierry Le Cheminant

Team 2: James Travers, Amy Critchlow, Dave Moseley

Team 3: Chris Norman, Emily Squire, Chloe Truffit

Friday 14th July, St Peter Port, from 16:00-17:30pm

  • It is the first time the mixed relay has taken place as part of the Island Games.
  • With short swim, bike and run legs all based around the Albert Pier, close racing and the prospect of some spectacular running dives - the event is particularly fan friendly.
  • Each island will have a team of three - two men and a woman - completing a super sprint distance triathlon in turn.
  • The transition and handover point is on the Albert Pier. Competitors will run down the cruise ship pontoon, dive in before swimming straight out to a turn buoy by the Fish Quay, they swim back into Albert Marina on the rising tide and run up the slipway.
  • The bike will take place on a 1.5km circuit on the town seafront, turning behind the Guernsey Information Centre and the Slaughterhouse, each leg doing four laps, and then the run will be a sharp 1.5km two laps turning at the tourist information centre.
  • The St Peter Port seafront shuts on Friday between 05:00 and 20:00 from North Esplanade to La Vallette to cater for the half marathon, cycling criterium and triathlon relay.

How to get to the race

  • On the final day, dubbed ‘Fantastic Friday’, the Town seafront will be closed all day from the North Esplanade to the old Aquarium at La Vallette, to allow for the half marathon, triathlon relay and cycling criterium.
  • Motorists parking in the field at the top of Le Val de Terres will have a choice of whether they want to park & stride or park & ride. A temporary bus stop at the north end of Fort Road means that people can hop on one of the scheduled buses that go down Colborne Road and into Town.
  • Extra cycle parks are being set up around Town and at some of the sporting venues. Temporary racks will be next to the existing cycle parks on North Beach and along the South Esplanade.

Places to view the race

  • All usual pavements will be spectator points around the course.
  • The south side of the Albert Pier will be good as this will give views of every element – part of the swim, possibly the changeovers and transition.
  • The north side of Albert Pier will have a great view of transition and more of the run than the south side, but the 2nd run lap begins going through transition.
  • The Esplanade will give good views of bike and run, but not much of transition, unless around by Woodies/The Picket House, where there should be a head on view of the finish.
